Questions

What people ask first.

Can Revit convert a Model-in-Place element into a loadable family?

Not by itself: Revit has no command for it, and its API will not open an in-place family for editing. Revanalyticx-FC does it for you. It reads every form inside the in-place family, rebuilds each one in a real family document, loads the family back into the project and places it exactly where the original stood.

Can I still edit the family afterwards?

Yes. Extrusions, blends, revolutions, sweeps, swept blends and voids are rebuilt from their own sketches, so Edit Family, Edit Extrusion and Edit Sweep open the original sketch. A form that cannot be reproduced exactly is rebuilt from its exact geometry instead, and the report says which and why.

Does the new family stay in exactly the same place?

Yes. The instance is placed at the original's position, elevation, rotation and level, joined and cut with its neighbours the same way round, and checked against the original's transform, bounding box, centroid and volume before the original is removed. On Autodesk's sample projects the measured offset is zero.

What happens to materials, parameters and the category?

You choose the category. Materials can be kept (painted faces included), replaced with one material, or mapped, and each becomes a family Material parameter you can change later. Mark, Comments, phases, level and your project parameters are carried across; anything that cannot be is listed in the report.

What about identical copies of the same element?

Convert Similar finds every identical Model-in-Place in the project, moved or rotated, with the same shape, materials and category, and gives them one shared family. A test with 100 copies produced one family. Mirrored copies deliberately get a family of their own.

What if a conversion fails, or I change my mind?

Each element is converted in its own transaction: if any check fails it is rolled back and the original is left untouched. The whole run is a single undo step, so one Ctrl+Z puts everything back.

Which Revit versions does it support, and does it work alongside Revanalyticx 4.1?

Revit 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026 on Windows 10 and 11. It has its own ribbon tab, installer and licence, so it installs and updates independently of Revanalyticx 4.1 and 5.1.
