Revanalyticx-RVC User guide — a newer model, rebuilt in an older Revit

Revit can upgrade a model but never save it back to an older version. Revanalyticx-RVC exports the model from the newer Revit, rebuilds it in the older one and tells you what happened to every element. This guide shows every button on the Revanalyticx-RVC tab in plain words: what it is for, how to use it, and what is good to know.

  • 12buttons on the tab, all explained
  • 3ways to bring a model across
  • 0changes to your original model
Before you start

Get set up

Three steps and you are ready. A transfer starts in the newer Revit and finishes in the older one, so RVC needs to be in both — the installer takes care of that.

1

Install

Close every Revit and run Revanalyticx-RVC.exe, the installer we send you. It adds RVC to every Revit 2022 – 2026 on the computer.

2

Say yes to Revit

Start Revit and choose Always Load when it asks. A Revanalyticx-RVC tab appears on the ribbon.

3

Activate

Click License at the right-hand end of the tab, paste your key and click Activate.

Pre-Check the model

See what a transfer would carry, and how, before anything is exported.

Pre-Check — Snowdon Towers Structural.rvt
Every category with its count and its route: rebuilt as native, IFC geometry or fallback geometry.

How to use it

  1. Open the model in the newer Revit.
  2. Click Pre-Check on the Check & Report panel.
  3. Read the element counts by category and what each category becomes — native rebuild, IFC or fallback geometry.
  4. Check the notes on worksharing, linked models, unsaved changes, file permissions and disk space.

Step 1: export from the newer Revit

Choose the older version and how the model travels, then write a transfer package the older Revit can build from.

Revanalyticx-RVC - Revit Version Downgrade
The version you are in is detected; choose the target version, the method, the output folder and the file name.

How to use it

  1. With the model open, click Revit Version Downgrade. Source (this Revit) shows the version you are in.
  2. Choose the Target Revit version — any release up to the one you are in.
  3. Pick the Conversion method: A. IFC Transfer (recommended), B. Geometry Reconstruction or C. Hybrid Transfer (see the next chapter).
  4. Set the Output folder, the File name of the older-version RVT and the categories to carry.
  5. Click Pre-Check ▶ to read the pre-conversion report, then Export ▶. Progress shows as it goes, and Cancel stops between elements.

Which method to choose

Three ways to bring the elements across. Whichever you pick, the levels, grids, units, project information, phases and shared coordinates always come too.

A

IFC Transfer

The recommended start. Revit's own IFC export and import carry every element as IFC geometry — imported into the project, or linked if you choose Link the IFC.

B

Geometry Reconstruction

Walls, floors, doors, rooms and more are rebuilt as real, editable Revit elements where that is reliable; the rest keeps the model's own geometry.

C

Hybrid Transfer

IFC first, then the native rebuild. The IFC copy of anything that became native is removed, so nothing is there twice.

Rebuilt as native
Walls, floors, ceilings, roofs, doors, windows
Also native
Columns, beams, furniture, rooms, ducts, pipes
Every element
Checked against the source

Step 2: complete it in the older Revit

Build a clean project from the package, save it as a file of the older version, and prove that it opens.

Revanalyticx-RVC - Complete Transfer
Pick the package, then Complete Transfer: the project is built, saved, reopened and checked.

How to use it

  1. Start the older Revit. A package waiting for this version is offered as Revit starts — or click Complete Transfer; no model needs to be open.
  2. Choose the package under Packages waiting for this Revit, or Browse... to its folder.
  3. If you like, choose a Project template (blank = this Revit's default) and add family folders.
  4. Click Complete Transfer ▶. The project is built and saved in the package's Output folder.
  5. The saved file is closed and reopened to prove it opens here. Then Open the RVT or Open conversion report.
Check & Report panel › Conversion Reports

Read the report

See what every element became — Native, IFC geometry, Fallback geometry, Missing or Failed — and why.

Revanalyticx-RVC - Conversion Report
Counts by category and status, then a row for every source element.

How to use it

  1. The report opens at the end of every transfer. Later on, click Conversion Reports to open the latest one or any earlier one.
  2. Each row shows the source ElementId, category and type, the new ElementId, the method, the geometry and parameter status, and any warnings.
  3. Select in model finds an element in the model; Export CSV... and Open HTML report are for sharing.
Check & Report panel › Retry Failed

Retry Failed

Turn fallback geometry into real Revit elements once the missing families are loaded.

How to use it

  1. Open the transferred model in the older Revit.
  2. Load the door, window or column families the report says are missing.
  3. Click Retry Failed, tick the categories, add family folders if needed, then click Retry.
  4. Each element that succeeds replaces its fallback object, and the report is updated.

Options, licence and help

Where transfers are saved, your licence, and how to reach us.

How to use it

  1. Options — the folder transfer packages are written to, the folder reports are copied to, and the project template and family folders Complete Transfer uses.
  2. License — enter or replace your activation key and see its status.
  3. Help lists every button with what it does; User Guide opens our website.
  4. Feedback opens an email to us with your version, Revit release and licence state filled in; About shows the version, the licence and where transfers are saved.

Quick answers

Can Revit save a model in an older version?

No — Revit can only upgrade. Revanalyticx-RVC does not pretend otherwise: it exports the model from the newer Revit, then the older Revit builds a new project from it — natively where that is reliable, as IFC or fallback geometry where it is not — and reports what happened to every element.

Which elements come back as real, editable Revit elements?

Basic walls, floors, ceilings, footprint roofs, doors and windows (in their rebuilt walls), columns, beams, furniture, casework, generic models, equipment, rooms, and ducts, pipes, cable trays and conduits. Each rebuild is checked against the source geometry before it is called native.

What is not carried across?

Views, sheets, schedules, annotations, dimensions, constraints, MEP connectivity, worksharing data and linked models (transfer each one separately). A family that does not exist in the older Revit stays geometry until you load it and run Retry Failed. Every report lists these limits.

Is my original model changed?

Never. Nothing is saved to it, the export runs in a transaction that is always rolled back, and each run proves the source unchanged afterwards. The output goes into a new package folder and never overwrites a file.

Do I need it installed in both Revit versions?

Yes: the export runs in the newer Revit and Complete Transfer in the older one. The installer adds it to every Revit 2022–2026 on the machine.

Still stuck?

Ask a person, not a manual.

The team that built Revanalyticx-RVC answers questions directly — usually within a working day (Mon – Sat, 9:00 – 19:00 IST). Use Feedback on the tab and your version and Revit release are filled in for you.
